Environmental policy statement

The Baytree Shopping Centre is committed to compliance with environmental legislation and pollution prevention and seeks to make continual improvement in achievements in these fields.

We focus on:

  • Waste management and improving waste recycling
  • Improvement of energy efficiency and water usage
  • Prevention of pollution
  • Communicating an awareness and understanding of environmental issues amongst staff, tenants, contractors and members of the public and allowing staff to contribute towards environmental improvements

RECYCLING

The Centre has been enabling recycling of a considerable proportion of the total waste produced on site for some years. Paper, Plastic and cardboard are sorted out of the waste stream by tenants and centre staff. Taking paper and plastic out means a reduction of about 50% of the waste stream prevents it going to landfill.

Other elements of waste removed from the waste stream now include all electrical items and all light bulbs. All the remaining waste goes to a sorting site where it is mechanically and hand sorted removing about 50 – 75% of the waste before the balance goes to landfill.
